Continuing your portfolio
« on: March 12, 2014, 04:07:31 pm »
Your portfolio should be considered an on-going project.  While you may come to a "finished" point for your student portfolio, once you're out working in the industry, you will need to periodically update your portfolio with new pieces.  Here are a few tips to make that process easy.

1. Save your work. Save printed and digital copies, if possible (for print materials) and document environmental displays or other items with photographs too.  It's good to have both available.  This sounds simple, but it's so important.

2. Try to update you portfolio annually.  That way you don't get too far behind in the work that it seems impossible to get it all updated.  Just add the pieces you really like and are proud of.

3. Be sure to update your portfolio if you're about to look for a job.  Try to include the pieces that really show the kind of work you want to do.
