International Marketing

International marketing means developing and performing marketing activities across national boundaries. From an American viewpoint, international marketing encompasses how U.S. companies understand global and cultural perspectives, and how they choose to work within those perspectives to market to other cultures.

Marketing methodology is universal to a degree. In the United States, our perspective is very much our own; other nations may consider themselves a little differently. This difference in interpretation guides other countries in deciding what brands and products are appropriate to market and sell.

Individual cultures within countries also impact what is marketed and sold. International marketing is about taking marketing concepts and applying them in a different country. Itís imperative to understand the culture of the nation you are working with, and the subcultures within it so that you can create appropriate brand and marketing messages. Then you can decide which marketing methods will get the message to the right target.
